Lord Shiva is one of the most revered deities in the Hindu religion and Maha Shivratri is the greatest festival which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It marks the convergence of Lord Shiva with Goddess Shakti, the night the Lord Shiva and Parvati (Shakti) were wedded. The festival falls on the Chaturdashi Tithi during the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu month of Magha according to South Indian calendar and that of Phalguna according to North Indian calendar. The festival is celebrated on the same day all over the country, though the difference is attributed to difference in lunar months.
