Bandipur National Park is one of the most beautiful and one of the most well maintained national parks in India. This park is located on the Western ghat mountains of the Mysore – Ooty highway. The Bandipur National Park is spread out over 874 sq. km and when combined with Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala and Nagarhole National Park in the North these parks create the largest biosphere reservation for India which is also popularly known as the ‘Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve’. Bandipur was a private game reserve for the Maharajas of Mysore at one point in time. About 90 Sq. km of this area was created as the Bandipur Reserve in 1931. About 800 sq. km was later extended and converted into the Venugopala Wildlife Park. Today this Bandipur National Park is one of the 15 Tiger Reserve Projects in India. Project Tiger is an initiative that was launched in India to safeguard the Tigers.

There are a number of things to do at the Bandipur National Park especially for all those who love admiring the wildlife. There are some amazing safaris that help you check out some amazing spot wild elephants, deer, flying squirrel, Nilgiri langur, sloth bear and tigers. You can also check out some various birds that you will not see any place else. These include woodpecker, weaverbird and kingfisher.

Best Time To Visit
It is best to avoid a visit to the Bandipur National Park during the monsoon since most of the animals seek shelter and it becomes tough to spot them at this time. March to May is a great time to pay a visit to the Bandipur National Park since the forest dries up and it is easy to spot the animals. November to February are also great times to visit the park since it is cool and you will enjoy the beauty in its full green beauty.
