Bandipur National Park

Bandipur was a private game reserve for the Maharajas of Mysore at one point in time. About 90 Sq. km of this area was created as the Bandipur Reserve in 1931. About 800 sq. km was later extended and converted into the Venugopala Wildlife Park. Today this Bandipur National Park is one of the 15 Tiger Reserve Projects in India. Project Tiger is an initiative that was launched in India to safeguard the Tigers.

It is best to avoid a visit to the Bandipur National Park during the monsoon since most of the animals seek shelter and it becomes tough to spot them at this time. March to May is a great time to pay a visit to the Bandipur National Park since the forest dries up and it is easy to spot the animals. November to February are also great times to visit the park since it is cool and you will enjoy the beauty in its full green beauty.
