Badami is one of the oldest cities in Karnataka and was known to be the ancient capital of the early Chalukyas. The Chalukyas ruled the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh between the 6th and the 8th century. The city was part of the major power fight between the Pallavas, Chalukyas and the Rashtrakutas for a long time.
